Increased Numbers of Electric Cars in 2014
The electric cars are seen as the next big wave in the Green industry. These vehicles run completely on electricity. Some of the vehicles do require a little bit of gasoline in order to create their own electricity, but there is a push for vehicles that can be plugged into the home electrical units. It is hoped that with the push for clean electricity that the world's dependence on oil and fossil fuels will be decreased and potentially eliminated. It is estimated that there will be an increase in the number of electric cars in 2014. With today's technology, there are a few difficulties that the electric car has yet to overcome. The primary obstacle is size. The electric engine is not large enough or strong enough to provide towing capability and higher speeds. This is similar to the problems that gasoline and diesel engines originally had when first produced. With the constant improvement in technological ability, it is assumed that electric cars in 2014 will have overcome these obstacles and will be as strong and fast as the diesel and gasoline powered vehicles of today. Another obstacle that the electric cars in 2014 may have overcome includes the short battery lifespan. The vehicles that are completely electric run off a battery. This battery does not last long in today's cars and only provides about two hours of continual run time. This is hardly long enough for the busy families and business people. In addition, two hours drastically cuts the distance that can be completed for long haul trips. In order for these vehicles to meet the optimistic ideas that they will be more common, rivaling the traditional vehicles, the short battery life will need to be corrected. There are very few people who can expect to travel less than two hours worth of driving in a single day from leaving the home to getting back home. One suggestion to correct this was to provide recharge centers at popular sites such as shopping centers and public offices. There is also the idea of a fast acting charging station that is similar to today's gasoline pumps. The major foreseeable problem with recharge centers at shopping centers and public offices, besides the price of them, is the need to rewire existing facilities to handle the influx of current. The cost of this can be extremely high. As stated before, the only answer to the battery problem that will allow the electric cars of 2014 to gain the popularity that is expected is to increase the battery charge. |
